Part 4 *Kate's POV* The rest of the day was a blur. I don't even remember what happened, I was unresponsive in lessons, I bet my teachers were fed up of me. I felt so guilty for not telling my friends about my mum. I just didn't want to deal with all the sympathy. They would've found out eventually though. Plus telling them reminded me that it had happened. By not telling them I could pretend that my mum was at home waiting for me to get back from school, cooking my tea and humming whilst doing the washing. Not that she'd done that for a long time. Grant had taken all the happiness away from my mum. She was like a robot when he lived with us. But I could see the fear in her eyes when he got home at 2am in the morning every night. Drunk out of his mind. I could see the way her hand shook as she reached for a mug to make his coffee. I could sense the repulse when he went to stroke her face, normally a sign of endearment. With him it was a warning. If she got on the wrong side of him there would be hell to pay. I could see it all. By the time I'd reached Lou at the gate I was 10 minutes late. He looked slightly impatient but after what had happened he was being nice. "Hey Kate," he smiled softly. I smiled back but didn't feel like saying anything. "You going straight to Harry's tonight?"
